Born near Margilan, he was released from prison after the February Revolution of 1917 and after October became militia chief of Old Margilan. In 1918 he took his militiamen over to Ergash's Basmachi but refused to accept Ergash's leadership and built up his own force, and by 1919 controlled most of the Fergana Valley outside the large towns and the railways. At the end of August he allied with Monstrov's Peasant Army, and on 22 October he became head of the Fergana Provisional Government. After a run of defeats in February 1920 he signed an agreement recognising Soviet power on 6 March. Sent to win over other kurbashi, he was captured and killed in May by the bands of Kurshirmat and Khal-Khodzha.
