Terrorist, Counter-Revolutionary: the Black Horse of the Revolution

At his 1924 trial: 'I am Savinkov, of the Plehve and Grand Duke Sergei assassinations. All my life I worked for the people, yet now I am charged with bearing arms against the workers' and peasants' power.'

Revolutionary and novelist who led the SR Combat Organization, directing assassinations of high-ranking tsarist officials. His The Pale Horse (1909) novelized the psychology of terrorism. After the October Revolution he led anti-Bolshevik armed struggle, was arrested in an OGPU trap, and died at Lubyanka.
