· The movement of 1796 and trial of 1797

Conspiracy of the Equals

평등파의 음모

A movement associated with Babeuf against the Directory that demanded substantive equality in livelihoods and property relations beyond legal equality.

In depth

Maréchal’s Manifesto of the Equals is a source for understanding the movement, but its wording did not command unanimous leadership support. Distinguishing the project, its defeat and trial, and later reception through figures such as Buonarroti clarifies its differences from Marxism.
