Constitution of the Year VIII
혁명력 8년 헌법
Constitution drawn up on 13 December 1799 (22 Frimaire Year VIII) after the coup of 18 Brumaire. It vested government in three consuls with ten-year terms but concentrated real power in the First Consul, Bonaparte, establishing the Consulate.

Article 39 itself named Bonaparte First Consul and Cambacérès and Lebrun Second and Third Consuls. Under Articles 41 and 42 the First Consul promulgated laws and freely appointed and dismissed ministers, councillors of state and officers, while the other two consuls had only a consultative voice. Sieyès conceived the draft, but after Bonaparte hurried the work it was finished mainly by Daunou. The official plebiscite result announced on 7 February 1800 was 3,011,107 in favour and 1,562 against, figures historians have found to be falsified. It was superseded by the Constitution of the Year X on 4 August 1802 (16 Thermidor Year X).
