First World War
A global war in 1914–1918. The Allies, centred on France, Russia and the British Empire and joined by Japan, Italy, the United States and others, fought Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. Mobilization extended to dominions and colonies; revolution and imperial collapse transformed the settlement.
