Kuomintang left-wing officer who headed the expedition's political department, broke with Chiang and founded the "Third Party"
From Huizhou, Guangdong, he graduated from the Baoding Military Academy. A supporter of the Soviet alliance, he sat on Whampoa's preparatory committee and served as its dean, and in the Northern Expedition he headed the political department of the National Revolutionary Army's headquarters and directed the assault on Wuchang. In 1927 he became a Kuomintang Central Executive Committee member and head of the Military Council's General Political Department, opposing "the army commanding the party", and when Chiang broke with the Communists and the Soviets he denounced him and left for Russia and Europe. Back in China he founded the Third Party and attacked Chiang's dictatorship until he was arrested in 1931 and secretly executed at Nanjing.
