45th and, from 2025, 47th US president who signed the CARES Act in the COVID-19 crisis
Born into a wealthy New York City family, Trump studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania, renamed the family real estate business the Trump Organization and bought and built skyscrapers, hotels, casinos and golf courses. Winning the 2016 election, he was the 45th president of the United States, for the Republican Party, from 2017 to 2021. He signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and started a trade war with China, and in 2020, while downplaying the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, he signed the bipartisan CARES Act. He lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden but tried to overturn the result. He won the 2024 election and has been the 47th president since 2025.
