Albanian educator and politician from Shkodra. After literary studies in Paris and antifascist resistance, he served as education minister from October 1944 to January 1945. Opposition to postwar electoral restrictions preceded his arrest in 1946 and death in custody. The dates follow AIDSSH; conflicting accounts are discussed below.

Imprisonment and conflicting records
Accounts disagree on sentence and death. AIDSSH gives a 30-year sentence and death in 1960; this entry follows those dates and sentence. The Shqipopédia entry citing Elsie instead gives 20 years and death at Burrel in 1950. Fatmira Nikolli’s account of historical research also reports 1961. These discrepancies remain explicit.
AIDSSH summarizes the death as occurring at Burrel prison. A 1963 letter by Muharrem Xhakoni, published by Kastriot Dervishi, describes delayed treatment followed by death after arrival in an operating room at Tirana’s national hospital. Dervishi’s annotation dates the 30-year sentence to 2 July 1946 and death to 20 August 1960. The card therefore says “died in custody”; the hospital account is attributed to this testimony rather than presented as an undisputed location.
