Polish Socialist leader who co-founded the Galician Social Democrats and headed independent Poland's first government
Born in 1866 at Zbaraż in Galicia, he co-founded the Polish Social Democratic Party of Galicia in October 1892, and at the Zurich congress of 1893 led the all-Polish delegation that opposed seating Luxemburg and Marchlewski. He sat in the Austrian parliament from 1897 to 1918. In November 1918 he headed the Provisional People's Government in Lublin, joined the unified Polish Socialist Party in 1919, and was Marshal of the Sejm in 1928–1930. He died at Bystra in 1936.
