Wrangel’s cavalry corps commander whose last counter-attack at Perekop in November 1920 was broken by the Makhnovists and Red cavalry
Born into a hereditary noble family of Poltava Province, he won the Order of St. George in the First World War and in 1917 took command of the Ingermanland Hussars. In 1918 he commanded a cavalry division of Hetman Skoropadsky's Ukrainian State, then in October left Chuguev with former comrades to join the Volunteer Army. In 1919 he rose from the Drozdovsky cavalry regiment to division command, took over the 5th Cavalry Corps in December and covered the retreat to Novorossiysk. In 1920 he led a cavalry corps of Wrangel's army in Northern Tavria, and in November, as the last reserve, counter-attacked at Perekop, only to suffer heavy losses against Karetnik's Makhnovists and the 2nd Cavalry Army, which ended the defence of Crimea. In exile in Belgrade he headed the 4th Department of the Russian All-Military Union; he died in Munich in 1947.
