Wrangel’s general who led the Combined Corps out at Chongar in June 1920 and later took over Kutepov’s 1st Corps
From the Don Cossack nobility, he served in Don Cossack regiments in the First World War and in early 1918, though a colonel, joined the Volunteer Army as a private and took part in the Ice March. In 1919 he commanded the 1st Kuban Corps and the Tsaritsyn garrison, then a combined corps of the Caucasian Army. After the loss of Novorossiysk in spring 1920 he gathered some 15,000 Don and Kuban Cossacks who refused to surrender and shipped them to Crimea, and became commandant of Sevastopol. From late May he led the Combined Corps, which broke out at Chongar into Northern Taurida in June and defeated Zhloba's cavalry corps, and from August he commanded the 1st Army Corps in Kutepov's place until the last battles at Perekop. In exile in France he was elected Don ataman in 1953, and he died in 1967.
