Capitalocene / Капиталоцен · Concept

Capitalocene

자본세

An eco-Marxist counter-concept to the 'Anthropocene,' arguing that the root cause of climate crisis and ecological destruction is not an abstract 'humanity' but capitalism as a world-historical system driven by the logic of endless accumulation. First coined by Andreas Malm in 2009 and developed by Jason W. Moore, Donna Haraway, and others. Moore traces the Capitalocene's onset to the rise of the capitalist world-ecology around 1450; Malm locates it in the ascendancy of fossil capital after 1830.
