Committee of Public Safety (Paris Commune)

공안위원회 (파리 코뮌)

A five-member committee created by the Paris Commune council on 1 May 1871 by 45 votes to 23. Modelled on what the Montagnards had done in 1793 to meet the dangers they faced, it was given no clearly defined powers, and the decision split the Commune's members into a majority and a minority.

In depth

Jules Miot proposed it to the Commune council on 28 April. The first members were Arnaud, Melliet, Ranvier, Pyat and Gérardin; Pyat resigned on 5 May. A new committee elected on 9 May brought in Delescluze, Eudes and Gambon in place of Gérardin, Melliet and Pyat. The minority protested and abstained. It is a separate body from the National Convention's Committee of Public Safety of 1793–1795.
