Day of Potsdam
포츠담의 날
The ceremony held on 21 March 1933 in the Garrison Church in Potsdam to mark the re-opening of the Reichstag after the Reichstag fire and that month’s federal election.
In depth
The date matched the opening of the first Reichstag in 1871, and the venue was a shrine of the Prussian monarchy. The handshake between Hindenburg and Hitler became a propaganda image of the reconciliation between old Prussian conservatism and the Nazi movement. Two days later the Reichstag, meeting in the Kroll Opera House, passed the Enabling Act.
