Republic

공화정

A political order without a hereditary monarch as ruler. The designation alone does not determine who can exercise political power.

In depth

The French National Convention abolished monarchy in September 1792. The existence of a monarch, the division of legislative and executive powers, and voting qualifications are distinct questions. A republican form of government should also be distinguished from republicanism as a tradition of thought.
