Mutual Advantage-Disadvantage Theory
상호 유불리론
A framework for analyzing Korean gender conflict, formalized by Cheon Gwan-yul and Jeong Han-ul in a 2019–2025 SisaIN survey series. It holds that men and women each experience different advantages and disadvantages in different domains: men are disadvantaged in military service, industrial accidents, and life expectancy; women in the wage gap, career interruption, and political underrepresentation. Conflict arises from mutual misunderstanding rather than one-sided structural oppression. It is contrasted with 'Structural Discrimination Theory,' which holds that women have faced systematic historical and institutional discrimination; survey data from 2025 confirmed a shift in dominant Korean discourse from the latter toward the Mutual Advantage-Disadvantage frame.
