Partito Socialista Unitario (PSU) · 1922–1930

Unitary Socialist Party (Italy, 1922)

통일사회당 (이탈리아)

A democratic socialist party in Italy active from 1922 to 1930, reformist and anti-fascist in outlook.

In depth

It was founded in October 1922 by the gradualist reformists around Filippo Turati after the Socialist Party expelled them at its Rome congress, with Giacomo Matteotti as secretary. When Matteotti was murdered after denouncing the violence and fraud of the 1924 election, the party stood at the centre of the Aventine Secession. It was dissolved in November 1925 on the pretext of a plot by its member Tito Zaniboni to kill Mussolini, was rebuilt in exile and rejoined the Socialist Party in 1930.
