Ustaše

우스타샤

The Ustaše was a Croatian fascist and ultranationalist movement founded in 1929 that ruled the Independent State of Croatia during the Second World War. Dependent on the Axis invasion and support, it established a collaborationist regime that persecuted and carried out mass murder against Serbs, Jews, Roma, and anti-fascists.

In depth

The Ustaše emerged from the crisis of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and Croatian ultranationalism, pursuing an independent state through terrorism and armed struggle. Led by Ante Pavelić, it took control of the state apparatus and militia of the Independent State of Croatia after the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941. The regime combined ethnic and racial exclusion with forced conversion, expulsion, and murder, including systematic persecution in the Jasenovac camp complex. The movement collapsed with the establishment of socialist Yugoslavia in 1945.
