Democratic Federal Yugoslavia
민주연방 유고슬라비아
Democratic Federal Yugoslavia was the provisional state established by the Yugoslav Partisan movement during the war of liberation, with its state form proclaimed at the second session of AVNOJ in 1943. The National Committee for the Liberation of Yugoslavia performed governmental functions, and in 1945 the state moved through a merger with the government-in-exile toward the postwar federal republic.
In depth
At Jajce in November 1943, the second AVNOJ session constituted the council as the supreme legislative and executive representative body of Yugoslavia and made the National Committee for the Liberation of Yugoslavia a de facto government. The new state claimed a federal principle based on the equality of its peoples, while postponing the final question of monarchy or republic until after the war. The 1944 Treaty of Vis and Tito–Šubašić agreements pursued a merger between the Partisan government and the royal government-in-exile, and a provisional government was formed in March 1945. Monarchy was abolished and the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia proclaimed on 29 November 1945, ending the official use of the name.
