Harzburg Front
하르츠부르크 전선
A short-lived far-right and anti-democratic alliance in Weimar Germany, formed in 1931 to present a unified opposition to Chancellor Heinrich Brüning’s government. It joined Alfred Hugenberg’s German National People’s Party, Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party, the Stahlhelm leadership and the Pan-German League.
In depth
Formed at Bad Harzburg on 11 October 1931 as the “national opposition”, it never became a firm bloc: Hitler kept his distance so as not to look like a junior partner of the conservatives, and the alliance broke apart when its members ran separate candidates in the 1932 presidential election. It nonetheless made the Nazi Party an acceptable ally for the conservative establishment.
