Lenin Boys
레닌 소년단
The Communist paramilitary used to crush counter-revolution in the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919. Some two hundred men organised by József Cserny called themselves by this name; travelling the country on Tibor Szamuely’s armoured train, they executed suspected counter-revolutionaries without trial.
In depth
The Lenin Boys took and executed hostages in villages suspected of counter-revolution, requisitioned food in the countryside and bloodily suppressed the peasant rising around Kalocsa in June. At the demand of the commissars who had been Social Democrats, the defence commissar Vilmos Böhm ordered them dissolved at the end of April, and on 19 May the army disarmed the Cserny group at Gödöllő, though some of its men joined Ottó Korvin’s political investigation department.
Estimates of the dead of the Soviet Republic’s terror range from 300–600 to 590. After the fall of the Soviet Republic Cserny and thirteen of his men were tried and executed in December 1919.
