재볼루션
refolution
영국 역사가 티머시 가튼 애시가 1989년에 만든 합성어로, 개혁(reform)과 혁명(revolution)을 결합한 개념이다. 동유럽 공산정권 붕괴를 설명하며, 이는 위로부터의 개혁(당내 개혁파의 양보)과 아래로부터의 혁명(대중 봉기)이 뒤섞인 독특한 체제 전환이라는 분석을 담고 있다. 이 개념은 1989년의 사건들이 '진정한 혁명'인지 '협상된 이행'인지를 둘러싼 논쟁의 출발점이 되었고, 훗날 아랍의 봄과 같은 다른 사례에도 적용되며 논의가 확장되었다.
