Banker who acted as chairman of the State Bank during the currency reform
Born in 1887 in Ostrov, Pskov Governorate, he worked as a bookkeeper for private firms and banks and served as a Red Cross orderly in the First World War. He joined the RSDLP(b) after the February Revolution, entered the State Bank in December 1917, and headed the People's Bank of the Northern Region in 1918–1919. From 1921 he was a board member of the State Bank and a member of the collegium of the finance commissariat, taking part in the currency reform of 1922–1924, and from March 1924 to January 1926 he was acting chairman of the Board of the State Bank of the USSR. He then sat on the presidium of Gosplan and served as trade representative in France, and in 1932 became chairman of the board of the Industrial Bank. Arrested in August 1936, he was sentenced to death in September and shot; he was rehabilitated in 1964.
