옹진반도

Ongjin Peninsula

옹진반도는 38도선 최서단에 위치한 한반도의 돌출부로, 1949년 김일성이 스탈린에게 전면전 대신 제한작전의 첫 목표로 점령을 제안했던 지역이다. 스탈린은 전면 침공을 거듭 거부하면서도 이 반도에 한정된 타격은 검토했으나, 결국 정치적 부담을 이유로 금지했다. 1950년 6월 25일 한국전쟁이 개전된 직후 조선인민군은 이곳을 38도선 전역에 걸친 총공세의 한 축으로 공격해 이틀 만에 점령했다.
