European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC)

1951년 파리 조약으로 설립된 최초의 초국가적 유럽 기구로, 프랑스·서독·이탈리아·벨기에·네덜란드·룩셈부르크 6개국의 석탄·철강 산업을 단일 공동 시장으로 통합했다. 국가이익이 아니라 공동 이익을 수호하도록 설계된 임명제 고위기관이 운영을 맡았고, 1950년 5월 9일 로베르 슈만의 선언에서 비롯되어 석탄·철강 생산의 공동화로 프랑스와 독일 간 전쟁을 '생각할 수 없을 뿐 아니라 물질적으로 불가능하게' 만들려 했다. 1957년 로마 조약으로 창설된 유럽경제공동체(EEC)의 제도적 본보기가 되었고, 2002년 조약 만료로 해산되었다.
