Local committees in revolutionary France that investigated suspects, compiled lists, issued arrest warrants and reported to central authorities.

Committees established under the law of 21 March 1793 became key local agents of the Law of Suspects. Article 3 assigned them suspect lists, arrest warrants and the sealing of papers.
Article 4 required at least seven members and an absolute majority for arrest orders. Article 9 required lists, reasons and seized papers to be sent to the Committee of General Security, connecting local information to central political policing.
An arrest was not a criminal conviction. Article 7 provided for detention until peace, while Article 10 allowed courts to maintain detention after dismissal or acquittal. Local committees operated within this system of preventive detention.
